If you live on planet earth and pay half attention to the news, you have probably heard about all the controversy which surfaced when Marissa Mayer ended Yahoo's work from home policy. Some have said this move would truly hurt the company's ability to retain the best talent; others have said it's working very well for the company.
So we decided to run our own poll to ask people what they would do if they worked at Yahoo under such circumstances: would they quit, or stay? We got pretty interesting results — 104 said they'd stick it out and 66 said they would quit. That's about 38% of the people polled who would quit, which is a rather large percentage.
It's hard to speculate whether this was the correct move for Yahoo; time will tell. The short answer is that there isn't one foolproof approach when it comes to setting a work-from-home policy, and you can't generalize that everyone who works from home is more productive. The new policy probably has leeway for single parents, emergencies, and special situations. There is no one-size-fits-all solution.
